Job Description

Job PurposeEconometrically model scenarios for the SA economy, for regulatory and other purposesSupport the macroeconomics research unit with data analysis, perform data base maintenance, and analyse economic indicatorsProvide research support to the senior economistsCommunicate the research view and/or modelled scenarios to stakeholdersKey Responsibilities/AccountabilitiesThe role will require a close working relationship with and support for the bank’s economists.Have and maintain a good understanding of the macro and microeconomic structure of the South African economy.Communicate the modelled scenarios and forecasts to various internal and external stakeholders, including as part of the various regulatory processes and to inform and explain the economic outlook and risks to various business units in the bankRespond to ad hoc internal and external research requestsThe role will require database maintenanceAssist with economic researchPresent economic outlooks and thematic research reports to a wide range of clientsMaintain and improve the existing data basisAssist with the automation and updating of data and chartsDevelop an in-depth knowledge of the South Africa consumerContribute to thematic research reports

Responsibilities + Skills


Masters degree in Economics or Econometrics or Statistics is essentialStrong quantitative skills are critical.Extensive experience with Excel is essential


Macroeconometric modelling experience in Eviews is essentialExperience in a similar role at either a financial institution, the SARB, an independent consultancy, National Treasury or SARS would be a strong advantage
