Job Description

The University of KwaZulu–Natal is one of the top Universities in South Africa and in the

top 500 Universities globally. The School of Life Sciences has a long-standing tradition in

research and teaching in Zoology, particularly in the areas of terrestrial vertebrate

ecology, physiology, behaviour and conservation, and hosts the DST/NRF South African

Research Chair Initiative (SARChI) Chair in Ecosystem Health and Biodiversity in KwaZulu-

Natal and the Eastern Cape.

Responsibilities + Skills

A current and sustained research record of publications in peer-reviewed ISI/SAPSEaccredited journals appropriate for the level of appointmentSuccessful supervision of postgraduate students (MSc and /or PhD) in a relevant fieldof study.


A PhD degree in Vertebrate Biology or an equivalent field


Experience in teaching at a tertiary institutionDemonstrated ability to attract external research funds
