Job Description

The School has an active group of academic staff contributing to research and
teaching in the fields of atmospheric science, biogeography, environmental
management, geomorphology, GIS, and remote sensing, and seeks an
individual who will help in strengthening its activities in geomorphology. The
incumbent will be tasked with undergraduate teaching within Physical
Geography at all levels using curricula in keeping with modern developments in
that field, and will assist in developing discipline-wide postgraduate teaching
programmes across the School. The incumbent must show expertise in teaching
the content of existing under-graduate Physical Geography courses, with a
particular focus on geomorphology. In addition to teaching, s/he will be
expected to develop and maintain an active research programme that will
involve supervision of postgraduate students and attract external funding. S/he
will also be expected to be involved in the School administration, outreach
activities and take up a leadership role within the Pietermaritzburg Campus.

Responsibilities + Skills

Successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD levelsDemonstrated ability to attract external research funds

Education

A PhD in Physical Geography, with specialisation in Geomorphology

Experience

Experience in teaching at a tertiary institutionA current and sustained research publication record in peer-reviewed
