ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECUTER/LECTURER

Job Description

Applications are invited for a permanent position in Linguistics at the level ofAssociate Professor/Senior Lecturer/Lecturer, in the School of Arts at the University ofKwaZulu-Natal. The applicant must have expertise in Sociolinguistics and/or AppliedLinguistics, preferably in areas which are pertinent to South Africa. An addedadvantage is knowledge/expertise in the area of corpus linguistics and a similarcomputer-assisted area of Linguistics. The successful applicant will be responsible forteaching and supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, participate incurriculum development, assume relevant administrative duties, and pursueresearch.Minimum Requirements: Associate Professor• PhD in Linguistics, or in a cognate discipline; in the latter case the PhD needs tohave a clearly identifiable Linguistics topic;• Evidence of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching experience in Linguisticsat tertiary level that converges with the department’s offerings;• Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students;• Evidence of university administration and involvement in communityengagement;• Academic leadership appropriate to this level;• Evidence of attracting research funding;• Evidence of an excellent research record in Linguistics.Minimum Requirements: Senior Lecturer• PhD in Linguistics, or in a cognate discipline; in the latter case the PhD needs tohave a clearly identifiable Linguistics topic;• Evidence of teaching experience in Linguistics at tertiary level that convergeswith the department’s offerings;• Evidence of successful supervision of postgraduate students;• Evidence of university administration and involvement in communityengagement;• Evidence of active research in Linguistics.Minimum Requirements: Lecturer• Master’s degree in Linguistics, or in a cognate discipline; in the latter case theMaster’s thesis needs to have a clearly identifiable Linguistics topic;•
