The School of Chemistry and Physics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal is one of theresearch intensive Schools in the University. It offers high quality training, both in Chemistryand Physics at all levels of qualifications from undergraduate to a PhD degree. The Physicsdiscipline on the Pietermaritzburg campus has vibrant research groups in the fields ofMaterials Science, Computational Condensed Matter Physics, and MolecularSpectroscopy, among others. These research fields are financially supported by theNational Research Foundation (NRF) and the University. The discipline is also one of thefounding members of the Nanotechnology platform hosted by the College.Currently, the Physics discipline seeks a highly motivated academic staff member to fill theavailable vacant post at the level of Associate Professor. The incumbent is expected toteach physics courses, including practicals both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels aswell as conduct independent research in a field of his/her expertise. Research expertise in theareas of Materials Science and Computational Physics will be an added advantage.

A PhD degree in Physics. Relevant teaching experience at a tertiary level institution. A sustained research record of publications in quality peer-reviewed ISI/SAPSEaccredited journals, appropriate for the level appointment.
