The College of Humanities is now seeking to appoint an outstanding Dean and Head of
School of Social Sciences to provide leadership in the design and implementation of a
high-quality student experience, foster an environment for achieving the highest quality
research, and to sustain and develop a global reputation for the social sciences disciplines.
The successful candidate will be a significant academic leader with an outstanding profile
in a field relevant to School’s portfolio with a strong track record in research, education and
professional achievement, including significant management and leadership roles. The
Dean and Head of School will lead, inspire and nurture interaction with a diverse range of
internal and external stakeholders. S/he will be expected to provide high-level academic
leadership and strategic direction of the School in research, teaching, community

Associate Professor/Professor with experience in an academic/research leadership role.PhD/Doctoral Degree in a discipline relevant to the School.An established academic leader and scholar with an excellent publication andresearch record (as prescribed by UKZN senate norms) at a level that attracts respect
The term of office for this position is five years. In the case of applicants who are permanentstaff members of UKZN, the successful applicant will resume his/her substantive position at theend of this term of office. Appointment of external applicants may be underpinned by apermanent substantive appointment in their academic specialist area.
