Job Description

The Department of Media and Cultural Studies (Howard College campus) focuseson three disciplinary strands at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels:corporate communication (including marketing, public relations and advertising),film studies (cinema, television, and film-production), cultural studies (including newmedia studies and political economy, journalism). We will consider applications fromany stream of Media and Cultural Studies but are particularly interested in the areaof Cultural Studies with a focus on any of the following areas: New media, PoliticalEconomy, Writing for the media, Media and technology, Race and gender inMedia, Media Ethics. We invite applications for a permanent position at the lecturerlevel, beginning to teach across all strands.The applicant is expected to teach across undergraduate and postgraduate levels;engage in research; supervise postgraduate students; assume relevant seniorleadership duties both in the programme and within the School of Arts; andcontribute toward raising the research profile of the department.Short-listed candidates will be expected to deliver to the selection Committee, a 10-minute presentation in his / her specialist field.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:• A PhD in Media and Cultural Studies (An advantage), or related field;• PhD in examination candidate will also be considered, if they meet theother minimum requirements• At least 3 years teaching experience in Media and Cultural Studies attertiary level;• Evidence of Postgraduate supervision of Honours, Masters and / or PhDstudents;• A good record in research pertaining to Media and Cultural Studies,evidenced by publication IN DHET accredited journals, books, or bookchapters; or Journalistic outputs• Ability to participate in Community Engagement Projects
