The Product Owner (PO) is a member of the Agile Team responsible for defining Stories and prioritizing the Team backlog to streamline the execution of program priorities, while maintaining conceptual and technical integrity of the features or components for the team. The PO has a significant role in quality control, and is the only team member empowered to accept stories as done. The Product Owner is responsible for understanding the needs of the business leaders and the strategic direction of the organisation as well as leading a program of research and development to deliver a solution which meets these needs.
Voice of the Customer
Know the Business strategy and have the ability to clearly formulate business priorities to the Feature team.
Facilitate the relationship with the end-customer and business. leadership/owners, bringing the Voice and priorities of the customer to the fore.
Drive out issues and have sufficient autonomy to make decisions.
Be a business expert with deep product and operational knowledge.
Support overall Strategy and ensure delivery on specific strategic projects
Active participation in the Design Solution thinking.
Manage priorities across multiple systems.
Contribute to vision, roadmap and content presentations.
Active daily participant in iterations and sprints (planning through to showcases) and team retrospective.
Provide content during analysis for user stories.
Sign-off on user stories, UAT testing. • Assist in development of story acceptance criteria, fulfilling QA role.
Assist in decision-making (though not required to have technical expertise).
Demonstrate new functionality in release demo and be accountable for showcase reports.
Attend product management meetings.
Ensure the solution solves the business problem / meets the customer needs.
Assimilate information from a variety of sources, and develop a coherent strategy and product roadmap.
Work with the program management team and other team members to ensure that all facets of the project are delivered according to schedule.
The Product Owner is responsible for collating information from various stakeholders (both internal and external) and developing an overall solution vision. The Product Owner must be able to communicate that vision to stakeholders and the team.
The Product Owner is responsible for developing and updating the product roadmap. This may require the Product Owner to interface with other Product Owners to ensure that there is a roadmap alignment.
Using the Agile methodology and the project management framework, the Product Owner will be responsible, with the team, for developing a structured development plan which sees the program through from inception to delivery. The Product Owner is responsible for the strategic management of the overall program, ensuring the schedules are met and risks managed.
The Product Owner will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team to achieve the project aims. The resources will be under the direction of the Product Owner for the duration of the project.
