Job Description

The School has an active group of academic staff contributing to research and teaching
in the fields of biogeography, environmental management, geomorphology, GIS, and
remote sensing, and seeks an individual who will help in strengthening its activities in the
new programme on Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation. The incumbent will
be tasked with undergraduate teaching within GIS and Remote Sensing at all levels using
curricula in keeping with modern developments in that field, and will assist in developing
discipline-wide postgraduate teaching programmes across the School. The incumbent
must show expertise in teaching the content of existing level two, three and Honours GIS
and Remote Sensing courses while being encouraged to develop new GIS and Remote
Sensing courses at these levels. Furthermore, ability to teach mainstream Physical
Geography courses, will be considered an advantage. In addition to teaching, s/he will
be expected to develop and maintain an active research programme that will involve
supervision of postgraduate students and attract external funding. S/he will also be
expected to be involved in the School administration and outreach activities.

Responsibilities + Skills

A current and sustained research publication record in peer-reviewed ISI/DoHET


A PhD in the field of GIS and Remote Sensing or relevant field


Experience in teaching at a tertiary institutionSuccessful supervision of postgraduate students (MSc and /or PHD)
