Job Description

This is a lecturing post in the CVA of the School of Arts. The post entails the scheduledlectures and supervision of students registered at the University of KwaZulu-Natal,Centre for Visual Art, Pietermaritzburg Campus, in the Fine Art modules of BA (VisualArts), BA (Media Studies) and BA (General Studies) and in postgraduateprogrammes. Current undergraduate teaching includes practice-led topics, themesand media of South African Visual Art specifically regarding contemporary 3-Dstudio productions and practices of Ceramics and 3-D Design.The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching and supervision atundergraduate and postgraduate levels, participate in curriculum developmentand programme administration, and to pursue practice-led research in Ceramicsand 3-D Design.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Senior Lecturer• A PhD (or equivalent) in the field of Fine Art/Visual Art.• Two years’ teaching experience at tertiary level in recognised creative workin the specialised 3-D Studio Ceramics media of Fine Art/Visual Art.• An appropriate record of publication or recognised creative work in thespecialised 3-D Studio Ceramics media of Fine Art/Visual Art• Evidence of administrative experience including Ceramics Studiomanagement.• Evidence of successful supervision of Masters Students.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Lecturer• A Master’s degree in Fine Art/Visual Art, and evidence of registering for a PhD(or equivalent) in one of these fields.• Evidence of successful teaching experience at tertiary level in recognisedcreative work in the specialised 3-D Studio Ceramics media of Fine Art/VisualArt.• Evidence of experience and knowledge of Ceramics Studio management.• Qualified to supervise at Honours level.• A publication or proof of acceptance of a publication in a scholarly journal ora chapter in book, or evidence of recognised creative workThe successful appointee must have an appropriate Master’s degree (Lecturer) orPhD (Senior Lecturer) or equivalent professional experience in the field of Fine Artstudio practices at tertiary level. The successful candidate must have aspecialisation in Studio Ceramics. S/he will be expected to teach in a range ofpractice-led undergraduate Studio Ceramics, a process which will require areasonable theoretical knowledge of the discipline as well as the capacity to teacha practical range of contemporary ceramic media including Raku, Earthenware,Porcelain, and Stoneware.
