Job Description

Job PurposeThis role is core to the business’s portfolio management, critically analysing and contributing to the equity research process, active asset management of client portfolios, and client relationship management. The portfolio manager will be accountable for a portfolio of high value and sophisticated clients characterised by a high touch client service and overall client experience, by leveraging from a robust investment philosophy and process that is aligned to the MD house view. Foster collaborative and deep relationships with wealth managers and relationship managers, respectively. Expresses well-articulated views on all stocks and sectors we invest in. Must be a subject matter expert showcasing deep thinking across sectors, markets and the ability to make sense of highly complex markets and issues. Demonstrable ability to formulate business strategy development and implementation thereof. Promotes the investment philosophy and tests the integrity of the work done by the team against the investment philosophy. The individual is accountable for offering clients with a high touch personal client experience, building deep relationships with clients, constantly raising the bar, in order to achieve trusted advisor status. Responsibility for generating trading revenue with client base leveraging off the house view and investment ideas generated by the research team.Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities Relationship Managment :PM’s will manage the relationship between Melville Douglas Advisory and their clients and ensure all clients are contacted on a regular basisBuilding relationships and working closely with the channel referrers to grow new businessStructuring of reports, presentations and proposalsDiscuss the performance of portfolios as well as giving clients an understanding of Melville Douglas’s view on the prevailing economic and investment environmentThis involves client meetings and telephonic contact to drive trades volumes and revenueThis requires the PM’s to have a thorough knowledge of all companies in the Melville Douglas universe as well as a deep understanding of the Global investment environment, such as exchange rates, economic growth rates, inflation, political risk etcPM’s act as the specialist investment interface between existing and potential clients for Standard Bank Wealth & Investment businessPM’s ensure that clients are compliant from a regulatory and statutory perspective

Responsibilities + Skills

Actively contribute to the operational risk framework in the unit by way of the maintenance of the risk and control self-assessment matrix for the business unit together with its associated key risk indicators

Education

Present new and or prospective clients to the Melville Douglas Business Assessment Forum Committee: Know-Your-Client, and protect the business and banks reputation.
