Specialist: Employment Relations

Job Description

Support the Deputy Director in executing the HR strategy and achieving all Employment Relations outputs and budgetary targets;
Provide specialist employment relations assistance and advice to Business Partners, Line Managers, Shop Stewards and staff members;
Assist with the training of Line Management, Human Resources staff and shop stewards in employment relations procedures, policies and any other related legal issues in the employment relations space;
Advising Line Management and staff in resolution of disputes;
Reporting on progress regarding matters that are assigned for handling;
Reporting on statutory requirements as legislated;
Provide specialist advice, guidance, support to the Director – Human Resources all staff with regards to Employment Relations and labour law compliance;
Advising line management and staff on grievance procedures;
Representing UP management on labour legal matters at the CCMA and other fora as delegated;

A good understanding of the labour law;Basic understanding of the higher education environment;Excellent written and verbal communication skills;Thorough knowledge of dispute resolution mechanismsAbility to facilitate workshops;


3 - 4 year legal degree or 3 year Human Resources degree with postgraduate diploma in employment relations or labour law;At least 5 years specialist Employment Relations experience with exposure to a unionised environment;
